Let's TalkThe most urgent demand in the trades, decided in under a minute, and usually lost on the phone rather than in the auction.
Give us access to the ad account and a month of call recordings. We will come back with how many calls were missed, how many were answered badly, how many were outside your area, and what each of those cost you in wasted spend. Recorded walkthrough, no call required to receive it.
Local conditions that change the plan, rather than the region name pasted into a template.
Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego are among the most competitive and costly places to advertise plumbing, and Sacramento, the Inland Empire and the Central Valley behave very differently. A statewide campaign averages them into a number that describes none of them. California plumbers need budgets, bids and reporting by metro, with tight exclusions and drive-time targeting so expensive clicks only come from customers the crews can actually reach.
California law requires all new, replacement and existing residential water heaters to be braced, anchored or strapped to resist earthquake motion, and home sellers must certify compliance in writing. That makes water heater strapping, replacement and inspection a steady, recognisable line of work, particularly around home sales. Pages and campaigns built for it - and relationships with real estate agents - turn a legal requirement into a dependable source of jobs.
Much of California's housing was built decades ago, and older supply lines and drains eventually need replacing. Repiping, sewer line replacement and leak detection are larger, considered jobs that deserve their own pages, campaigns and follow-up rather than being lost among drain clears. Homeowners researching them want to see the process, the disruption and the price range before they invite anyone in.
The board that governs your advertising depends on the licence you hold, not only on the region. These are the rules that bite in California.
Every licensed contractor must include its licence number in all construction contracts, subcontracts and calls for bid, and in all forms of advertising (Business and Professions Code §7030.5). CSLB's regulation defines advertising broadly - cards, signs, vehicle lettering, print, 'airwave or any electronic transmission' and directory listings (16 CCR §861). Search ads, social ads, the website and every listing need the number before they run.
Each commercially registered vehicle used in the business must display the business name and contractor's licence number in a clearly visible location, in print at least 72-point or three-quarters of an inch high and wide (B&P §7029.6). Vans are some of a plumber's most visible marketing, so we treat the livery as advertising - designed to be remembered, consistent with the website and compliant before it goes on the road.
For home improvement contracts, CSLB says the down payment cannot be more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and buyers generally have three business days to cancel - five if they are 65 or older. Offers for repipes, water heaters and sewer replacements should never imply a deposit or commitment the law does not allow, and sales follow-up should respect the cancellation period.
The same programme as everywhere, run against this region's rules.
Our closest work is the dental network in the case study below, where we ran Meta and Google, moved budget toward Google Local Services Ads and cut cost per lead 38%, reaching 31,000+ leads at $19 each with show rates up 44% from automated reminders. That client was not a plumbing company and not in California. What transfers is disciplined spending across expensive local markets, each judged on its own numbers - which matters a great deal in California, given what clicks cost here.
Read the full case studyYes. Business and Professions Code §7030.5 requires licensed contractors to include their licence number in all forms of advertising, and CSLB's regulation defines advertising to include electronic transmissions, signs, vehicle lettering and directory listings. That covers search and social ads, your website, Google Business Profile and printed materials. We add the number to every format before launch and check it whenever we audit an account.
Your business name and contractor's licence number, in a clearly visible location, in print at least 72-point or three-quarters of an inch high and wide, on each commercially registered vehicle used in the business. We design van graphics to meet that requirement and to work as advertising - readable at a glance, consistent with your website and profile, and memorable to the neighbours who see it every day.
For home improvement contracts, CSLB says the down payment cannot be more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. Buyers generally have three business days to cancel, or five if they are 65 or older. Offers and financing messages for repipes, sewer lines and water heaters should match those rules, so the promise in the ad matches the contract.
Yes. California requires all new, replacement and existing residential water heaters to be braced, anchored or strapped against earthquake motion, and sellers must certify compliance when a home is sold. A clear page explaining the requirement, campaigns around home sales and relationships with real estate agents make strapping and replacement a steady source of work - and often the first job with a new homeowner.
With discipline. Split campaigns by metro, target by drive time rather than whole counties, exclude DIY, job and supply searches, and separate emergency, water heater and repipe campaigns so each is judged on its own cost per booked job. Import booked jobs as conversions so bidding learns which searches pay. In Los Angeles and the Bay Area, small leaks in an account become expensive quickly.
