Let's TalkA new floor is chosen by eye and compared on a price per square foot - a number that leaves out the old floor coming up, the subfloor, the trim and the stairs. Flooring marketing has to get homeowners comparing whole jobs, and keep them talking to you while they decide.
Give us access to your ad accounts, Google Business Profile and a few months of measures and quotes with their outcomes. We come back with where your installs really came from, how many measures went to people who bought elsewhere, which floor types and areas earn their keep and what we would change first. You get a recorded walkthrough; there is no call to sit through.
Four failures we see repeatedly in this vertical, and what each one actually costs.
Big-box adverts and online sellers talk about material by the square foot, and that is the number homeowners carry into every conversation. Your quote includes taking up and disposing of the old floor, preparing the subfloor, underlayment, moving furniture, transitions, trim and stairs. When none of that is explained before the quote arrives, your total looks expensive beside a material price that was never a like-for-like comparison, and the careful work you do is exactly what makes you lose.
A couple choosing engineered hardwood for an open-plan ground floor, a landlord replacing carpet with luxury vinyl between tenants, a family carpeting three bedrooms and a homeowner who wants old oak sanded and refinished are four different purchases. They search differently, care about different things and are worth very different amounts. One message, one campaign and one form for all of them leaves each buyer reading copy written for someone else.
A free in-home measure is a generous offer, and some people use it as a free price check before ordering material online or from a big-box store. Others have already bought flooring and want installation only at the lowest labour rate. Without a few questions before the visit, estimators spend afternoons measuring rooms for people who were never going to buy the floor from you.
Flooring is rarely bought on the first visit. Samples go home, they are looked at in morning and evening light, partners are consulted and dates are fitted around a move or a family event. Most companies send the quote, call once and move on. The homeowner who was nearly ready three weeks later often books whoever happened to be in touch at the right moment.
Business outcomes rather than dashboard metrics. None of these is a guaranteed number - where we do guarantee something, it is written into the offer above.
The real deliverables, not a list written to make a proposal look thicker.
Not the general agency pitch. The reasons that only apply to this kind of business.
Homeowners have seen material prices; they have rarely seen what installing a floor properly involves. We turn your quote into something they can understand before it arrives - what comes up, what the subfloor needs, which underlayment, how stairs and doorways are finished - so the comparison is between whole jobs, and the company that does the job properly stops looking like the expensive one.
New hardwood, luxury vinyl for a rental, bedroom carpet and a refinish are different purchases. Each gets its own message, page, booking questions and reporting, so you can see which floor types and which areas earn their place, and the work that pays best is not crowded out by the enquiries that are quickest to arrive.
Most flooring decisions are made weeks after the first visit. We set up follow-up that helps rather than chases - photos of the floor they liked in a finished room, an answer to the question they asked, an honest note about install dates - so you are still in the conversation when the homeowner is finally ready to book.
Finished jobs traced to their sources, split by floor type.
Material-only and price-check visits caught before they are booked.
Removal, subfloor, underlayment, trim and stairs made visible.
Local installs sorted by floor type and room.
Useful contact through the weeks a decision takes.
Cost per measure and per finished floor, by source.
The parts of this that come from having run it in this industry before rather than from running it well in general.
Google lets hybrid businesses show a storefront address with staffed hours and also set a service area, kept within about two hours' drive. A flooring company with a showroom can be found by people who want to visit and by people who want the samples brought to them.
The EPA says asbestos may be found in older vinyl floor tiles, the backing on vinyl sheet flooring and adhesives, and advises against sanding or levelling asbestos flooring. Explaining how you check and handle old floors before quoting reassures owners of older homes and shows you know the job.
Landlords and property managers replace floors between tenants and want durable products, quick scheduling and consistent pricing. A page and a contact route for them builds work that repeats every time a unit turns over, and smooths the quieter weeks between homeowner projects.
A homeowner with tired hardwood is not shopping for a new floor. Sanding and refinishing has its own searches, its own questions about dust and drying time, and a different price conversation, so it earns its own page, campaign and gallery.
None of our case studies is a flooring company. The nearest is a seasonal home goods brand where we ran Meta alongside Google Shopping and rebuilt the offer around bundles - average order value rose 34%, on $2.3M in revenue at 5.1x ROAS. Presenting the whole job, with removal, underlayment, trim and stairs included, instead of a bare price per square foot is the same move in a flooring business.
Read the full case studyNot on the material price. Big-box stores and online sellers lead with cost per square foot; you compete on the finished floor. Explain what your quote includes, show installs in local homes, make your installers and showroom real people and places, and follow up well. Homeowners who understand the whole job are far less likely to choose on a material price alone.
Only with care. A single figure invites comparison with material-only prices that leave out removal, subfloor work, underlayment, trim and stairs. Explaining what drives the total, with honest ranges for common jobs where you are comfortable, is more useful, and it filters out budgets that will never fit before anyone spends an afternoon measuring.
Yes. They have different buyers, decision times and values. Luxury vinyl is often chosen for kitchens, rentals and homes with pets; hardwood is a longer, more considered purchase; carpet is usually bedrooms and stairs; refinishing is a different service entirely. Separate pages, campaigns and reporting show which lines actually earn their marketing budget.
A showroom needs people through the door: opening hours, directions, what they can see and touch, and a reason to visit now. Shop-at-home needs trust before a stranger comes to the house: who visits, what they bring, how long it takes and that there is no pressure. Many companies offer both, and the two journeys should be planned separately.
That is a business decision, but your marketing should state it clearly either way. If you install customer-supplied material, explain your terms - what you check before fitting, what your workmanship warranty covers and what it cannot. If you do not, say so on the website and in the booking questions, so people who bought online stop booking free measures.
Carefully and honestly. The EPA says asbestos may be found in older vinyl floor tiles, the backing on vinyl sheet flooring and adhesives, and advises against sanding or levelling asbestos flooring, suggesting a new covering over it where possible. Explain how you assess old floors before quoting and when testing or a specialist is needed.
It can. The FTC's Cooling-Off Rule requires sellers to tell buyers they can cancel most sales of $25 or more made in the buyer's home within three business days. Shop-at-home flooring sales signed at the kitchen table are a common case, so make sure the notice is given and present it as part of an unhurried approach.
It depends on the state and sometimes the city. California, for example, has a C-15 Flooring and Floor Covering contractor classification covering carpet, resilient flooring and wood floors, though not ceramic tile. Check the rules where you work, and show licence and insurance details where they apply - the FTC tells homeowners to look for both.
With something useful each time: photos of the floor they liked in a finished room, an answer to a question they asked, a note about install dates if they mentioned a deadline. Use email, Messenger or a phone call rather than repeated chasing, and stop when they say no. Patient follow-up keeps you on the shortlist through a decision that takes weeks.
Google's current US list of Local Services Ads categories includes flooring services, so many flooring companies can, though availability varies by area. They charge per lead rather than per click, and businesses that pass Google's checks show a Google Verified badge. Compare them with search campaigns on cost per install, not on lead price alone.
As a separate audience. Landlords and property managers replace floors between tenants and buy on durability, speed and consistent pricing rather than on a showroom visit. A page for them, a simple way to request turnover quotes and reliable scheduling build work that repeats, which is valuable in the weeks when homeowner enquiries are quieter.
